Another 48 Avenue Bridge Project Update

Posted on July 13, 2018 at 1:36 PM by Ashton Ford

Another on-site meeting was held on July 12th between AMEC, PSA, and the City.

PSA informed the City that the east side of the project is nearly ready for Border Paving to take over. Once Border Paving starts working on site, they will begin building the roadway base, the curbs, sidewalks and the actual roadway. The retaining wall adjacent to the Wild Rose Co-op staff parking lot is almost finished, all asphalt has been removed, and the roadway has been built up to its new elevation.

On the bridge itself, the approaching concrete slabs were poured on the evening of July 9th, and the grouting between the girders will be completed within a few days.

On the west side of the bridge, progress continues to be made with removing the old asphalt. Once Border Paving has begun their work on the east side, PSA can focus more on completing the west side as well. PSA also explained their plans to remove the sediment curtains seen in Mirror Lake within a week or two, as work on the banks of the lake come to a close.

During the meeting, there was also a discussion on the possibility of expanding PSA’s scope of work to include some additional sidewalk and road upgrades. If this were to happen, there may be a slight delay to when the project is complete (about one additional week), but should not substantially affect the overall budget.

Overall, the City is pleased with how the various detour routes are functioning. We are aware of some operational challenges that do exist on a few of the detour routes, and the City is seriously reviewing the current traffic accommodation plan to see what changes could be made to further improve the safety and traffic operations. As part of that review, the City is investigating ways to better route large trucks and non-local traffic around Camrose using the outer bypass route (Camrose Drive and 68 Street).

The City would again, like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during this project. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Engineering Department at 780-672-4428 or at
