What have we been up to ...

Posted on July 17, 2018 at 11:10 AM by Francisca Karl

Over the past month the Planning Department has been working hard to create planning policies for the draft DARP plan from the input gathered at the pop-up planning events over the past 3 months. DARP summer community engagement has been winding down for the Downtown Area Redevelopment Project. So far we have had 5 pop-up planning events completed.  At this point we are working hard to complete a draft of the plan to present at a community open house in late September. So far we have had 491 pop-up planning participants provide us feedback on what they would like to see downtown Camrose become over the next 25 years.

We have the following events left for this summer:

Thursday Night Farmer’s Market: July 26th, August 9th
Battle Rive BBQ Showdown: August 17-19th

470

Come see us Thursday July 26th 2018 at the Downtown Farmer’s Market (4:30pm to 7:30 pm)

If you are unable to attend any of the public engagement events this summer or would like to provide your input on the vision and guiding principles please e-mail Francisca Karl – Long Range Planner for the City of Camrose at fkarl@camrose.ca or phone at 780.672.4428.

So far we have heard the following:
What’s important to you:
• Sense of community
• Community events and entertainment
• Variety of restaurants, shops and local businesses
• Historic façade fronts
• Walkability

What could make downtown Camrose even better:
• More public, gathering spaces (green space)
• Increased, diverse housing supply that encourages more residents to live in the downtown
• Redevelopment of vacant/underutilized land that is sensitive to the built form of Main Street
• Additional public realm improvements such as benches, planters, lighting fixtures and public art throughout the downtown.

Come see us tomorrow June 23rd 2018 at Arts in the Park from 11-5pm (weather permitting)

If you are unable to attend any of the public engagement events this summer or would like to provide your input on the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) please e-mail Francisca Karl – Long Range Planner for the City of Camrose at fkarl@camrose.ca or phone at 780.672.4428.
