November 2017 Update

Posted on November 20, 2017 at 2:25 PM by Sara Walkey

Prior to the City’s DARP public engagement kick off in February 2018, the City has hired two consultants to do some preliminary studies that will help inform the direction of the plan in regards to current issues and challenges and future impact.

Downtown Parking and Transportation Study
The City has hired Watt Consulting, a specialized transportation planning and engineering firm from Edmonton. Parking can often be a contentious issue, therefore it is important to understand, through an evidence-based data collection approach, if there are existing parking and transportation issues in the downtown. You may see consultants from Watt out in the downtown observing parking and transportation patterns. This information will be used in conjunction with other data collecting techniques to provide the city with a good understanding of what the Downtown’s current parking and transportation issues, challenges and solutions may be. The information collected by Watt will help city staff provide more applicable policy directives in the new DARP. This study will wrap up at the end of January 2018.

City of Camrose Retail and Commercial Market Study
The City is also currently working with 360 Collective out of Toronto. 360 Collective specializes in understanding a municipality’s retail and commercial market and gaps. This study is a city wide initiative being undertaken by the City’s Economic Development Department. Throughout this study, the consultant will also be looking more specifically at the downtown core. The intent of this study is to help the city better understand where our current retail and commercial markets are at, where the gaps are, where we can grow and potentially what Camrose can attract and retain to either the downtown core or other commercial areas of the city. 360 Collective is also doing a survey to gather information from residents, the survey can be found on our homepage. This study will wrap up at the end of February 2018.

Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan

Posted on November 8, 2017 at 2:28 PM by Sara Walkey

The City of Camrose has begun an exciting planning process to re_vitalize, re_imagine and re_discover our downtown area through the creation of a Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP). The intent of this DARP is to replace the existing Downtown Action Plan in order to create a plan more suitable for the needs of Camrosians. Downtown Camrose has always been the economic, social and cultural heart of Camrose and an important part of the community’s overall identity. We want you to tell us what you want to see in the downtown area, what changes you would make, what you currently love and what would make downtown Camrose a more attractive and vibrant district. Estimated project completion timeline is October 2018.
