Rotary Week - February 17 - 23, 2019

The Rotary motto “Service Above Self” inspires members to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and promote good will and peace in the world.

Rotary funds club projects and sponsors volunteers with community expertise to provide medical supplies, health care, clean water, food production, job training, and education to millions in need, particularly in developing countries. 

Rotary in 1985 launched Polio Plus and spearheaded efforts with the World Health Organization, U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF to immunize the children of the world against polio, and that polio cases have dropped by more than 99 percent and that the world now stands on the threshold of eradicating the disease. 

Rotary is the world’s largest privately-funded source of international scholarships promoting international understanding through scholarships, and exchange program, with more than 47,000 students from 110 countries having studied abroad as Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars. 

Rotary’s Group Study Exchange program has helped more than 57,000 young professionals explore their career fields in other countries. 

7,000 secondary-school students each year experience life in another country through Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program. 

Rotary International, through the Rotary Foundation has contributed over $4.7 Billion towards service projects since its inception, and more than $400 Million in the 2017-2018 year alone.

Over 1.2 Million  Rotary club members, in over 200 Countries and geographical areas, (including over 50 members in two Camrose Rotary clubs), continue to sponsor service projects to address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment in their local communities, and abroad.

Therefore Mayor Norman Mayer proclaims the week of February 17-23, 2019, as Rotary Weekin the City of Camrose and that Saturday February 23, 2019 be designated as Rotary Day. Mayor Mayer encourages all citizens to join in in recognizing Rotary International, and the two Camrose Rotary Clubs for their service to improving the human condition both in Camrose and around the world.
