The Adult Lifeguard & Swim Instructor School will put candidates through all of the required courses to become a certified Lifeguard and a certified Swim Instructor for FREE!

This would be perfect for stay-at-home parents, retirees, or any other mature adults looking for a part-time position!

Application Process for Adult Lifeguard & Swim Instructor School
  1. Candidates will need to be able to confidently swim (but do not need to be an expert, as we will work on increasing endurance and strength throughout the program).
  2. Interested candidates must submit their resumes to the Mayer Aquatic Centre by March 11, 2024.
  3. We will then conduct dry and wet interviews to assess candidates' swimming abilities.
  4. We will do some training prior to summer and then candidates must work a minimum of one Public Swim every 30 days over the summer months.
  5. There will be a contract to sign outlining minimum hours required to work once candidates are certified. These hours to work will mostly be weekday Earlybird, morning, and afternoon shifts from September until the end of June. Additional hours can be picked up if interested.
  6. Prior to the start of the program, those candidates successfully chosen to attend will need to submit a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector check and pass a drug test, and they will receive a Conditional Letter of Offer. Candidates will receive their Final Letter of Offer after they are fully certified and complete the rest of the onboarding process.
