Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a diagnostic term used to describe a range of effects that can occur in an individual who was prenatally exposed to alcohol.
Children are our most important resource and it is our responsibility to care for, nurture and protect them.
FASD is the leading form of developmental disability and is a national health issue for individuals, families, communities and society-at-large.
In order to reduce the incidence of FASD, it is essential that communities provide those who may, or are planning to, become pregnant or who are pregnant, and their partners with support and information about alcohol and pregnancy.
Individuals impacted by FASD and their families, caregivers and communities will observe International FASD Awareness Day on September 9, 2025.
Therefore Mayor PJ Stasko, on behalf of Camrose City Council, proclaims September 9, 2025 as “Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day” in the City of Camrose and encourages everyone in our community to celebrate the successes and contributions of individuals who were prenatally exposed to alcohol and to support pregnant persons, and those who may become pregnant, in having a healthy pregnancy.
