Applications, Licences, and Permits

Explore the wide range of applications, licenses, and permits available through the City of Camrose - spanning everything from building and development permits to business, dog, and special event approvals.

You must apply for a building permit if your project involves any of the following: construction, additions, alterations that change structure, demolition, or rebuilding after a fire.

Every business operating in the City of Camrose requires a business license. Please view the Business Licenses page for all applications and their corresponding guidelines.

If you’re planning an event, you may need a Special Event Permit under the Concert and Special Events Bylaw. 

A special event could be, but not limited to, festivals, parades, run/walks, exhibits, sporting events, and concerts, and/or anything that may include the following:

  • A possible impact traffic/pedestrian flows or require partial or full road closures
  • Alcohol will be served
  • Fireworks or pyrotechnics will be used
  • Large crowds are anticipated
  • Children will be in attendance
  • May require approval of outside regulatory agencies such as Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis or Alberta Health Services
  • A possible public safety issue

You typically need a development permit if your project includes:

  • Building a new structure (e.g. accessory buildings over 10 m², garages, sheds)
  • Adding an addition or secondary suite
  • Changing land use or zoning (e.g. commercial to residential)
  • Placing signs, fences, patios, decks, or making significant alterations visible to the public

You need an electrical permit to install, alter or add to any electrical system whether it is residential, farm, commercial or industrial.

If you wish to make a request for information under the FOIP Act, complete the FOIP Form. You can generally expect a response within thirty business days. You mage need to bring in photo identification when picking up your information.

You will need a gas permit to install, alter, or add to a gas system. Alterations to a gas line when installing gas barbeques, fireplaces, stove, or similar appliances or outlets require permits.
