City of Camrose Updates Water Restrictions Bylaw and Moves into Stage 1 Restrictions
CAMROSE, AB — The City of Camrose has updated its Water Restrictions Bylaw to make it easier for residents to understand and follow. By consolidating previous documents and incorporating public feedback, the new Bylaw aims to provide clearer guidance on how we all can help conserve water.
With the Bylaw update now in place, the City has also been closely monitoring local conditions, including water levels and weather. As a result of ongoing dry conditions and limited rainfall, we have now implemented Stage 1 Water Restrictions to promote responsible water use and protect our water supply.
Under Stage 1 restrictions:
- Lawns may only be watered between 6:00am to 9:00am and between 7:00pm to 11:00pm.
- Odd-numbered houses may water on odd-numbered days.
- Even-numbered houses may water on even-numbered days.
- Hand watering only is permitted for flowerbeds and gardens.
- Sprinklers and water toys may be used for recreational purposes by children as long as children are actively playing, including a pool with a capacity not more than 1,000 litres.
- Decorative outdoor water features must be turned off.
Failure to comply with these restrictions may result in fines.
As the City continues to monitor water levels in Dried Meat Lake, residents are also encouraged to explore additional conservation strategies, such as the Toilet Rebate Program, available at www.camrose.ca/ToiletRebate.
Since it is crucial that we act now to ensure the reliability of our water supply, the City will also be doing its part in conserving water sources:
- Parks: Utilizing grey water for watering trees and new sod in the mornings and limiting sports field irrigation to three times weekly.
- Golf Course: Does not use potable water from the city water treatment plant for irrigation purposes and uses water for Mirror Lake. Monitoring rainfall and soil moisture to optimize irrigation, with an automated system minimizing water use during nighttime hours to mitigate evaporation.
Small actions today can make a big difference in preserving our water resources!
