July 2, 2026 Situation Update: Flooding and Residential Water Use Reduction
Residents are asked to continue reducing all non-essential water use until further notice. With additional rain still in the forecast, the City's wastewater system remains under significant pressure. Every litre of water that can safely be kept out of the system helps protect critical infrastructure and supports crews as they continue responding to ongoing flooding.
Continue to:
- Delay running washing machines and dishwashers whenever possible.
- Take shorter showers and avoid baths.
- Turn off taps when they are not in use.
- Postpone any other non-essential water use that can safely wait.
- Make sure sump pumps are working properly and that discharged water is directed away from your home's foundation and away from the sanitary sewer system. Where possible, direct sump pump discharge onto your lawn or another permeable surface where the water can safely soak into the ground.
Do not:
- Run multiple water-using appliances at the same time unless absolutely necessary.
- Wash vehicles, driveways, sidewalks, or other outdoor surfaces.
- Fill pools or hot tubs.
- Leave taps running unnecessarily.
- Connect or discharge sump pumps or downspouts into the sanitary sewer system.
For your safety, all valley areas and waterways within the city remain closed to the public until further notice. Stay out of all valley areas and off all waterways, including for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing, or any other recreational activity. Flooded areas, creek banks, trails, and water edges remain hazardous and may be unstable.
Do not enter closed areas or go around barricades. Follow all posted signs and directions. These closures are in place to protect the public while crews continue responding to ongoing conditions.
The City's Emergency Command Centre (ECC) remains active to coordinate the response. We continue working closely with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency to help coordinate resources and support ongoing response efforts.
City staff and crews continue working around the clock to manage water flows, protect critical infrastructure, complete emergency repairs, and keep essential services operating.
Additionally, we have created a dedicated webpage with the latest information about the ongoing flooding response, including current updates, safety information, water use guidance, closures, and answers to frequently asked questions. The page will continue to be updated as conditions change. Residents are encouraged to visit www.camrose.ca/flood for the most up-to-date information.
Thank you to everyone who continues to reduce water use, respect closures, and follow public safety advisories. Your cooperation is making a difference and is helping our crews respond safely and effectively during this ongoing event.
