June 30, 2026 Situation Update: Flooding and Residential Water Use Reduction

Thank you to everyone who has reduced non-essential water use. Your help is making a difference.

For your safety, please stay out of the entire river valley from the south end of Mirror Lake to the summer off-leash dog park until further notice. This includes all parks, playgrounds, trails, creek areas, the Mirror Lake spillway, and the spillway bridge.

Do not enter these areas, go around barricades, or pass any posted signs. Crews and equipment are working throughout those areas, including completing repairs to the riverbank near the spillway. Flooded areas and creek banks may be unstable and floodwater can be contaminated, fast-moving, or hiding hazards below the surface.

With rain in the forecast over the next several days, we are taking additional steps to help manage flows and reduce pressure on the wastewater system. We are asking residents to continue reducing non-essential water use until further notice to help ease pressure on the system.

Here's how you can help:

  • Delay running washing machines and dishwashers where possible.
  • Take shorter showers and avoid baths.
  • Turn off taps when they are not in use.
  • Postpone any other non-essential water use that can safely wait.
  • Make sure sump pumps and downspouts are working properly and draining water away from your home.

City staff and contractors continue working around the clock at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, emergency storm overflow ponds, and other locations throughout the community to help manage flows, protect critical infrastructure, and keep the community safe.

The City has also activated its Emergency Command Centre (ECC) to coordinate the response. This helps City staff, emergency responders, and partner agencies share information quickly, prioritize resources, and respond safely as conditions change.

Foam may be visible in areas with high water flows. Please avoid contact with floodwater or foam. If contact occurs, wash thoroughly with soap and clean water.

We will continue to provide updates as conditions change. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
