Max McLean Arena and Curling Rink Facility Closures Update - March 4, 2026

Significant progress has been made on repairs to the Max McLean Ice Plant, with several system repairs and testing steps now complete. Crews have replaced the heat exchanger, completed pressure testing, flushed the old coolant from the system, and refilled the system with new coolant.

With this work complete, staff have now begun rebuilding the ice surface in the Max McLean Arena. This process must be done gradually and involves freezing thin layers of water over the arena floor until the required depth of ice is achieved. If the process continues as expected, the ice is anticipated to be ready by March 12, 2026.

Staff will continue monitoring the system as the ice is rebuilt. The City will continue to share updates as work progresses and appreciates the patience and cooperation of user groups and residents throughout this process.
