Updated Dog Licence Bylaw

The City of Camrose has passed a new Dog Control and Licensing Bylaw, updating and replacing the previous version to better reflect modern practices and ensure the safety and well-being of residents, pets, and the community.

The updated bylaw streamlines regulations to make dog ownership clearer and easier for residents. With changes such as lifetime dog licences and enhanced rules for off-leash areas and aggressive behaviour, the bylaw supports responsible pet ownership while protecting public safety.

Key changes include:

  • Lifetime dog licences with no annual renewal required (effective January 1, 2026), unless the dog is classified as nuisance or vicious
  • Updated rules for owning more than three dogs on a single property
  • Stronger enforcement of aggressive, threatening, or dangerous behaviour by dogs
  • Updated rules for off-leash areas to improve safety and owner accountability

The Bylaw also outlines clear penalties for violations, sets expectations around containment, noise, and waste removal, and reinforces the City’s authority to manage dangerous animals.

Residents are encouraged to review the bylaw and ensure compliance by visiting www.camrose.ca/Bylaws.
