World Drowning Prevention Day Proclamation
Most drownings are preventable in a Water Smart community, which is why early Water Smart education is so important. Every year in Canada there are between 450 and 500 fatal drownings—an alarming statistic when considering that even one drowning is too many.
The Lifesaving Society urges Canadians and residents of Camrose to take whatever actions you can to promote and actively participate in being Water Smart. Some examples include: being within an arm's reach of young swimmers; refraining from substance and alcohol use while participating in aquatic activities; and always wearing a lifejacket when boating, kayaking, or canoeing.
Therefore, Mayor Stasko, hereby proclaims July 25, 2026 as World Drowning Prevention Day throughout the City of Camrose.
