World Press Freedom Day Proclamation

The United Nations has proclaimed an annual observance of May 3 as World Press Freedom Day as a healthy and professional news media is essential for a healthy and functioning democratic society, at all levels of government and state. According to the Local News Research Project, more than 600 news outlets in roughly 400 communities across Canada have either merged or closed completely since 2008.

Therefore, Mayor Stasko, on behalf of the City of Camrose, hereby proclaims May 3, 2026 as World Press Freedom Day in the City of Camrose.
