As an oilfield child, Councillor Ilg moved around a lot growing up. Born in Valleyview, AB, he has previously lived in Grande Prairie, Clairmont, Red Deer, Valleyview and settled in Bawlf in the summer of his Grade 8 year. This is where Camrose became home to him. He played minor sports, worked his first jobs, and graduated from Camrose Composite High School in 1999.

Upon graduating, Councillor Ilg attended Red Deer College and studied aviation, where he excelled, but found it out of his comfort zone of being a people person. He moved to Edmonton and began a successful career in the automotive industry. In a ten year span, he worked through positions such as Sales, Leasing, Finance Manager, Finance Director, Sales Manager, and General Sales Manager. It was then he wished to move back to his hometown and start a business of his own, thus opening The Canadian Brewhouse. After 10 successful years, he chose to leave the franchise world and open his own fully local restaurant which Camrosians know as Overtime Taphouse today.

Councillor Ilg is happily married to his high school sweetheart Lana (Pewar), who is a high school teacher in Wetaskiwin, and he is father to two amazing children, Jayven and Hadley. Sports are his passion, and he also enjoy camping, music, and meeting new people. He loves helping others and supporting his community the most.
