Beginning January 5, the Mayer Aquatic Centre will be updating its lane swim format to improve flow and accommodate a wider range of swimmers throughout the day.
What’s Changing?
-
From 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, the lane pool will be reserved for lane circle-swimming only. Please be aware that there may be up to 8 people in a lane at one time.
-
Starting at 8:00 AM and running until 12:00 PM 2 lanes will be designated for alternative aquatic activities, such as water running, gentle exercise, or personal practice that does not require lane swimming
What Is Circle Swimming?
Circle swimming is a shared-lane system that helps keep swimmers moving smoothly and safely. Swimmers follow a continuous loop pattern—keeping to the right side of the lane at all times—similar to driving on a road. This allows more people to use the pool comfortably, even during busy times.
Choosing the Right Lane
To help everyone have a positive experience:
-
Select a lane that matches your swimming speed. Faster swimmers should choose faster lanes; slower swimmers should choose slower lanes.
-
If you’re unsure where to go, please ask a lifeguard—our staff are happy to help.
-
Be mindful of others in your lane, and communicate politely when you need to pass or adjust pace.
