City Council is the decision-making body for the City of Camrose as an organization. Its decisions impact how municipal services are provided. Council is elected for a four-year term which started in October 2021. Council meetings are the first and third Monday of the month unless otherwise posted. Mayor PJ Stasko

Mayor PJ Stasko was born in Spain and raised in Abu Dhabi until his family moved back to Camrose (where his parents were born and raised) in 1982.

In 1995, PJ moved to Edmonton to go to NAIT for Business Administration Marketing and then from 1997-2006, worked in radio (EZ Rock and CFCW) and TV (A Channel in Sales).

He was also the Fundraising Director and Vice President of the Rainbow Society of Alberta, which is a "wish granting" organization for chronically and terminally ill children, from 1998-2006.

Upon moving back to Camrose in 2006, PJ has served on the Rose City Curling Club Executive from 2007 to 2012, on the organizing committee for the Alberta Scotties in 2011 and the BP Cup 2012, and has served eight years on City Council since 2013. He has also most recently been involved in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling for the 2021-2022 season.

Currently, PJ is the co-owner of Dales Liquor Store here in Camrose, (since 2006), is happily married to his wife Lorri, and is a proud father of two daughters.

Councillor Lucas Banack

Lucas was born in Daysland and grew up near Tofield with four brothers. He has always stayed central to the Camrose area and moved into Camrose to pursue a career in media in 2006. In 2018, Lucas transitioned into real estate, choosing to work with Re/Max Real Estate. 

Lucas has always been active in the community, from working with the Charity Checkstop since its inception, to volunteering with 4H and on various community boards, like Special Olympics Camrose and the Boys and Girls Club.

A keen lover of sports, Lucas currently coaches the Bawlf Wildcats Junior High Boys Basketball team, and volunteers with the Camrose Kodiaks, Augustana Vikings Basketball Program, Camrose Buffaloes and Camrose Composite High School Trojans Football teams. Lucas also referees basketball and umpires baseball.

Councillor Lana Broker

Lana grew up on a cattle farm just northeast of Camrose.  After graduating from high school, she attended Fairview College and became an Animal Health Technologist.  She has had the pleasure of working for three different departments within the City of Camrose, those being the Parks & Recreation Department, Camrose Police Service, and the Public Works Department.

Over the years Lana has been deeply involved with 4-H and the purebred cattle industry, earning accolades in cattle judging from as far away as Tasmania, Australia. Lana is married and continues to rescue animals from shelters from all over Alberta.

Her hobbies include playing golf, riding motorcycles, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

Councillor David R. Francoeur

Councillor David R. Francoeur is honoured to be serving his first term on Council. He was born in Camrose and is a fourth-generation Camrosian. He currently works as a lawyer in Camrose at Knaut Johnson Francoeur, and is also the owner of Francoeur’s Cleaners, which has served the residents of Camrose since 1934.

Councillor Francoeur has previously served as the President of the Bailey Theatre Society, and is the current Vice-Chair of the Downtown Camrose Development Ltd. Board. He has also previously served as a Covenant Health Board Member.

Councillor Francoeur and his wife Sharon have three children and, in his spare time, he enjoys travelling with his family.

Councillor Agnes Hoveland

Agnes Hoveland is honoured to be re-elected for a third term on Council. She is a long time resident of Camrose, graduate of Camrose Lutheran College/Augustana, and the University of Alberta Hospital School of Nursing. Retiring in 2007 following an extensive and varied nursing career she ended her professional career as co-ordinator of Alberta’s first Community Cancer Centre at St Mary’s Hospital.

Agnes is currently a member of St Mary’s Hospital Foundation Board, Chair of the Camrose Lutheran College Corporation Board, and Vice-President Messiah Lutheran Church Council.  Previously, she was a member of the University of Alberta Board Of Governors, University of Alberta Senate, the Mentorship Team of the Peter Lougheed Leadership College, Augustana Chester Ronning Centre Advisory Committee, Pro Coro Canada Board of Directors and the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) Provincial Council. She is also the co-founder of the Grateful Grannies, a local group of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Agnes is a recipient of the CARNA Vogel Award in 2004 and the Nursing Excellence Award, St. Mary’s Hospital in 2007.

Agnes and husband James have two daughters and one granddaughter. She enjoys book club, the arts, and golf.

Councillor Kevin Hycha

Councillor Hycha is honored to be serving his third term as Councillor.

Growing up in a small town not far from Camrose, he completed high school and then went into trade school to become a Licensed Journeyman Heavy Duty and Automotive Mechanic.

Moving to Camrose in 1987 he began working for Camrose Truck Center as a Service Technician to Shop Foreman, Service Manager, General Manger, Director of Service for 6 locations, and finally Idealease Director of Maintenance before retiring May 2022.

Married to his wife Carol (who also moved to Camrose in 1987) now have two grown children, Amy and Thomas.

Kevin has been previously active in youth soccer and hockey for a number of years and was a member of Toastmasters and the Camrose Police Commission (three as a Citizen at Large and now on Council).

When time permits, he likes to travel, curl, downhill ski play Shinny Hockey in the winter and golf, fish during the summer.

Councillor DJ Ilg

As an oilfield child, Councillor Ilg moved around a lot growing up. Born in Valleyview, AB, he has previously lived in Grande Prairie, Clairmont, Red Deer, Valleyview and settled in Bawlf in the summer of his Grade 8 year. This is where Camrose became home to him. He played minor sports, worked his first jobs, and graduated from Camrose Composite High School in 1999.

Upon graduating, Councillor Ilg attended Red Deer College and studied aviation, where he excelled, but found it out of his comfort zone of being a people person. He moved to Edmonton and began a successful career in the automotive industry. In a ten year span, he worked through positions such as Sales, Leasing, Finance Manager, Finance Director, Sales Manager, and General Sales Manager. It was then he wished to move back to his hometown and start a business of his own, thus opening The Canadian Brewhouse. After 10 successful years, he chose to leave the franchise world and open his own fully local restaurant which Camrosians know as Overtime Taphouse today.

Councillor Ilg is happily married to his high school sweetheart Lana (Pewar), who is a high school teacher in Wetaskiwin, and he is father to two amazing children, Jayven and Hadley. Sports are his passion, and he also enjoy camping, music, and meeting new people. He loves helping others and supporting his community the most.

Councillor Joy-Anne Murphy

An entrepreneur and music educator with a habit of lifelong learning, a strong belief in the power of the arts, a passion for justice and sustainability, an abiding interest in people, and a deep love of her community, Joy-Anne Murphy begins her first term as City Councillor in 2021.

Having earned a Bacheolor of Music Degree from McGill University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Alberta, Joy-Anne has been an active and award winning teacher, choir conductor, clinician, and performer over the years. She has lived in Camrose since 2001, with spouse Darryl Dewalt and their two (now adult) children, where she has been active in multiple community organizations.

Joy-Anne looks forward to expanding on her involvement with the Camrose Community through her strong engagement in and support of the arts, education at all levels, and environmental and social issues. Her interests include sewing, podcasts, reading novels and the news, yoga, and cycling.

Councillor Don Rosland

Councillor Rosland is a third-generation member of the Camrose community.  He has lived, raised his family, and worked in Camrose his entire life.  He is married, has three children, and six grandchildren.

Don started his career with his father at the Camrose Meat Market. After completing school, he became a licensed automotive technician and later Service Manager at the local Ford-Mercury dealerships. Don volunteered with the Camrose Fire Department in 1980 and became Deputy Fire Chief in 2000 before leaving with 29 years of service. Don joined the Alberta Government with the Office of the Fire Commissioner in 2010 before retiring in 2020.

Through the years, Don has been active in the community as a Camrose minor sports participant and later as coach, a life member and past president of the Fire Investigation Association of Alberta, honorary member of the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association, and a former member and past co-chair of the Camrose Youth Justice Committee. Don is currently a member of the Probus Club of Camrose serving on the Speakers Committee. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, relaxing in the family cabin at Buffalo Lake, fishing, and traveling.
